Fantastic experience: The teachers are the most helpful, my favourite is Carol because she made our classes interesting and she had different exercises every week even after the 10 week period. The staff was the most kind, patient and empathic to deal with the students comments and doubts. They made my staying here feel like home and their warmth and sweetness help me feel as if i was on a family vacation. It can get pretty lonely but they helped me not feel this way. Also, they are pretty funny so if you want someone to talk to, they are here for you. Thank you for such a sweet and amazing experience Paty, Danaeu, Lorena and Laura❤️

The lessons were ok, just too much French speaker in the school (be careful if you speak French, it’ll be complicated for you to meet very different cultures). Negative experience: My experience at Kaplan was disappointing. Right at the reception, I felt a lack of attention and welcoming: it seemed that it didn’t really matter whether you were understood or not. In the classroom, I noticed a difference in how students from different nationalities were treated. Professors and staff appeared more patient with Korean students or even Canadians from Montreal, while Brazilian students did not receive the same level of support. Another critical issue was the constant use of Spanish. On one occasion, the teacher even tried to explain something to me in Spanish, which I found offensive, since my native language is Portuguese. Furthermore, this completely undermines English immersion, which should be the primary focus of the course. Despite the friendliness of some teachers, the lack of support, the environment being unwelcoming for Brazilian students, and the absence of real English immersion led me to quit the course. In contrast, my experience in Seattle showed me what a worthwhile exchange truly looks like.

Learn English at school only, it doesn't make sense... you can enjoy classmates, apartment/house mates, friends... everything is soo easy here! Don't miss it!

Negative experience: I would like to share my feedback on my stay at Kaplan Vancouver, which, unfortunately, was marked by several disappointments. First of all, the activities offered by the partner agency Westtrek are extremely expensive. After comparing prices, it’s clear that it’s much more cost-effective to organize them independently. This creates a barrier for students who want to explore Canada while staying within their budget. Next, I was surprised to find that at this school, you have to pay for almost everything. Paying to attend morning classes, paying for additional classes I didn’t request—often without a clear explanation of the charges. This gives an overall impression of excessive billing, suggesting that financial interests sometimes take precedence over the quality of the student experience. Regarding the organization of the school, I noticed a lack of clarity and rigor. Internal communication seems inefficient, which directly affected the quality of my experience. Some reception staff, particularly the secretaries, were unhelpful and even unpleasant when approached for assistance. In several cases, they did not take the time to listen to problems or offer solutions, and even spoke inappropriately. This lack of professionalism is unacceptable in an international school that is supposed to welcome students from all over the world. One of the most problematic issues was the discrepancy between what I paid for and what I actually received. I had enrolled in the Cambridge exam preparation program, with the promise of daily prep classes (around 3 hours per day for two and a half months). Instead, I found myself in an IELTS preparation class, along with other students in the same situation. After we complained, we were given just 2 hours and 15 minutes of Cambridge lessons per week—a clearly insufficient amount for serious preparation. This was a major disappointment, especially as it directly affected our performance in the exam. As for the teachers, most of them were kind, committed, and attentive, which was a positive aspect of my stay. However, one teacher in particular was problematic. It was nearly impossible to make progress in her class, as her lessons often consisted of watching movies or listening to her talk about her personal life. Moreover, she regularly treated students poorly, making unnecessary or belittling remarks. This created a demotivating atmosphere and negatively impacted the class environment. Finally, I faced a very difficult situation regarding my accommodation. I had planned to take a vacation during the last two weeks of my stay, but I had confirmed with the secretary that I still wished to keep my room during that time. I had, in fact, paid for both my courses and accommodation until June 14. However, on May 26, I received an email informing me that I had to leave my room by May 31. Shocked, I went to the Kaplan reception, where I was told, “That’s how it is,” and that I had to sort out other accommodation on my own. It was only after insisting on speaking with a manager that a solution was found: I was allowed to stay one more week (in my room that was paid). I have never had my money back for this last week. I believe this kind of treatment is unacceptable and causes unnecessary stress. I came to Kaplan with high expectations, motivated by a desire to improve my English and have a rewarding experience abroad. Unfortunately, I leave with a sense of bitterness.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this test center for IELTS. I recently took IELTS General training (computer based) here and the staff made sure that things were handled properly at every step of the way. They were easy to reach when I required assistance with the fee payment the week prior and on the test day they provided clear instructions which alleviated stress. Whoever suggested to play baby animal videos in the waiting room is a genius :) The test equipment were set up well and the rooms were quiet. Even though I get anxious for tests and feel easily distracted, I had a good time thanks to the setup here. Thanks all!

Negative experience: I spent around 6 months at Kaplan Vancouver, and overall, I’m disappointed with the experience. I don’t recommend this school if you’re already at an advanced level (C1/C2), as the content is not adapted—you risk learning very little or nothing at all. Here are some important points to consider: 1. Teaching Quality Is Uneven: some teachers were amazing—professional, motivated, and kind—while others quite the opposite : unstructured lessons, personal stories instead of teaching, watching movies in class, and disrespectful comments toward students. 2. Unfair Attendance Policy: if you take an official exam, you’re marked as absent and your attendance is reduced—unless you go out of your way to prove you were at the exam. Meanwhile, if you go on a WestTrek trip, it doesn’t affect your attendance. It feels biased and unfair. 3. Contradictory Language Rules: students are constantly told not to speak their mother tongue to promote English immersion, yet the front desk staff make no effort to speak English when talking to each other. It sends a very mixed message. 4. Extra Fees Everywhere: you have to pay for almost everything, often with little explanation. It gives the impression that money matters more than the student experience. 5. Cambridge Exam Course Disappointment: I paid for an intensive Cambridge preparation course (around 3 hours a day for over 2 months) but received only 2h15 per week. It’s totally inadequate for proper exam preparation and directly affects your performance. 6. Overpriced Activities: the trips offered by WestTrek, Kaplan’s partner agency, are extremely expensive. After comparing prices, it’s much more affordable to organise activities on your own. 7. Homestay Issues: my homestay experience wasn’t great. Some families clearly do it just for the money, and it shows. The food was poor, and communication was often difficult. In summary, Kaplan Vancouver may work for complete beginners, but if you’re serious about your progress or already at a higher level, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

Negative experience: Unprofessional and Demotivating – Not Suitable for Advanced Learners This was by far the worst language school I’ve ever attended. The teaching quality was poor, with no clear structure or effective methods, especially for C1-level students. If you come in with strong language skills and a desire to improve, you’ll quickly find yourself ignored, filling up random sheets or watching movies in the classroom. It is not worth the money at all. The overall atmosphere was demotivating. You’re treated more like a schoolchild than an adult learner, and it’s not uncommon to hear inappropriate or discouraging comments. There is no meaningful feedback during the course—just vague evaluation emails sent weeks after completion, which offer no real value. Unfortunately, I observed that certain cultural stereotypes were repeatedly reinforced during classes. Some comments made by staff could be perceived as culturally insensitive or inappropriate. This is unprofessional and unacceptable. The environment is not one that supports serious learning or progress. The classrooms are poorly equipped, especially the chairs, and most rooms have >no< windows, making the environment feel cramped and airless. If you're truly committed to improving your language abilities at B2-C1 Level, I strongly advise looking elsewhere.

The organization in charge of placing students with families is located in Boston...

Negative experience: I took my IELTS exam at this center on December 14th, and unfortunately, the experience was far from ideal. **Disruptions During the Exam:** During the reading test, a staff member repeatedly entered the room, seemingly performing unnecessary tasks, which caused disruptions and distractions for candidates. **Uncomfortable Setup for Paper-Based Test:** The desk and chair provided for the paper-based exam were poorly designed. The table was positioned too high, making it uncomfortable to work for the duration of the exam. **Unprofessional Examiner:** The worst part of my experience was the speaking test. My examiner in room #7, Lissa, left me and several other candidates deeply disappointed. She started recording even before I had a chance to sit down!!! , which added unnecessary stress. She frequently interrupted, not allowing me to finish my sentences, and her body language was dismissive and unprofessional. It was clear she was disengaged—flipping through pages while I spoke as if she was bored. Another candidate who had her just before me shared a similar negative experience. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable, especially for an institution that charges a significant amount for these tests. **Final Thoughts:** This experience was a waste of time, money, and effort. Even if the institute offered an apology now, it wouldn't undo the damage or refund the lost time and resources. I deeply regret not reading other reviews before choosing this center, as I assumed standards would be respected here in Canada. I strongly urge future candidates to read reviews carefully before booking an exam at this center. Save yourself from an unprofessional and stressful experience.

Fantastic experience: I went to Kaplan Vancouver, and I have to say the experience was incredible. The school is very well organized, the staff is very friendly, and they make sure to provide you with the best experience so you can enjoy your stay and, of course, learn as much as possible. The location is great, right in Downtown, where you have access to literally everything. The activities organized and coordinated by Kaplan are a great complement, as well as their various platforms. Regarding the teachers and their methodology, I can say they are of the highest quality. I would especially like to highlight Michelle Milburn, who is out of this world XD. Her unique activities, assignments, exercises, and tools make time fly in her classes; you don't even realize how time passes or how naturally and seamlessly you’re absorbing knowledge. She’s a wonderful person and professional—please give her a full-time contract as soon as possible XD :)

Fantastic experience: Having had friends from other language schools in Vancouver, whom I met through activities organized by West Trek, the tour guide, I highly recommend Kaplan for its diversity of students from all over the world, including Asia, Europe, and beyond. The school offers a wide range of activities to encourage interaction between students. Their Instagram perfectly reflects the school’s image, with all the relevant information. My only recommendation would be to choose the Viva Tower or King Edward residences. Having stayed with a host family and having had friends in the residences, I can say that the atmosphere in the residences is much better, especially for making friends quickly. It’s the best way, and they are located close to the school and downtown. Kaplan's staff have a youthful spirit, which creates a real sense of closeness with them. Negative experience: This school is run by incompetents, and 'incompetents' is an understatement. If you are serious about studying English, avoid this school. All they care about is promoting their excursions and hosting parties. You won't even be able to have peace in the accommodation you pay for because you'll be placed with a bunch of kids who only think about partying, and the management is fine with this. Furthermore, some teachers even take the liberty of using sarcasm and heavy criticism in an unjustified manner. An unprofessional and absurd behavior.

I got shock with my speaking test ‘However I took a test in qatar and my speaking test is really in good bond score…but here in Canada‘Vancouver’ it socks .. the one who test my speaking test is not even native English speaker maybe he’s vocabulary is not that wide enough.. it just sad because we had to pay again and retest again..
